Re-Post: The Light And The Noise

Some times at night I like to sit on the back porch and just get lost in the light and the noise. I hear all the night creatures calling out to each other and letting their presence be known. The chatter they do can be deafening. Every once in a while they all stop at the same time. As if a switch had been turned off. And just as suddenly one or two will make a small noise and then they all start again. The music they make keeps me from floating away with the breeze. The air is cool and makes me hug myself. All the while my body tries to release the stress of the day.

I take a deep breath in and look up. The light, the light shines all above me. I get lost at trying to string all the stars together. I find myself wondering how far they really are and loving how they shine every night just for me. They are my friends looking after me in the night. Keeping my way safe and allowing shadows to be seen. The stars work with the breeze and the shadows start to dance and entertain me.

This is why I love to sit on the back porch. I get a show of dance and noise. It lasts all night long. It saddens me when I have to go in. But I know the show will be there again tomorrow night and the next. Which makes my back porch the best place to be. I am blessed with the fact that God allows this show to happen for us all. Please stop and enjoy the light and the noise.

  1. Tonya, you are a kindred spirit. I too have spent hours sitting quietly on the porch listening to night sounds, stargazing. I think of the multitude of stars as all my loved ones who have now passed on, gone from my sight, but still there, watching, protecting, loving. The stars stretch to eternity.

These moments strengthen me and inspire me to move on and continue working toward God’s purpose for my life. Great post.
