We Just Need To Practice

Hey there everyone,

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.  I most certainly did.  My oldest came home from college for Christmas, my daughter turned 17 (She is making me and the hubby old very fast.)  She also got a job right before her birthday (Which is one week before Christmas).  We all celebrated my three holidays together at home with no big hoop la.  Which was just fine with all of us.

At the beginning of each year you might be finding yourself looking back.  People like to see what if anything they got accomplished and what they didn’t.  They make new goals for the upcoming months.  They try to adopt new, better habits.  One thing I have found is that they don’t set these out on a day-to-day basis.  No they spread them out over an entire year.  Yes, I realize that there are some that may take that long.  But ask yourself when you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Is it the tasks that need to be done? Or perhaps a soreness/pain you may have for sleeping different then you needed.  I could list a whole number of things that ; not only have I said to myself, but have heard others as well.  We are to begin each day a new. With the joy of the Lord.   Not with bitterness or need.  In order to do this all it takes is …… practice.  Practice means that you are trying each and every day with all you mind, body, and soul.  Practice means you won’t get it perfected or even do it some days.  It means you are trying.  That you are actually doing it with a good heart.  Practice mean you have taken you out of it and are doing it for the Lord.

I don’t understand why people are putting so much disgust on themselves at the beginning of each year.  They haven’t lost enough weight, gotten any healthier, saved enough money, given enough money and so on. So what?!? Do the best you can with what you have daily and let God handle the rest.  Before you know it; it will be a new healthier, happier, habit and a wonderful start to your day.  Now for those who might be keeping score, I know that I didn’t write a whole lot last year, but within that time that I did these are the words I used most.

Angels, Bible, Child, Children, Christ, Christian, Church, Churches, Control, Faith, Family, Glory, God, Good, Gospel, Grace, Hear, Hearts, Jesus, Kids, Learn, Lessons, Life, Listen, Lord, Love, Luke, Man, Marriage, Matthew, Mercy, Mistakes, MS, Music, ORU, Parents, Pastor, People, Religion, Speak, Spirit, Trouble, Women, Word, Work.

I like to leave you with a song that I heard on a CD that my sister had a long time ago.  The song might be an old one but it still holds.

What has been going on and on and ……

Well I fell of the “World of Blogging” again.  To just give everyone a little update, I have decided to post a lot of pictures to tell what has been going on.  When last we talked we were headed to Ok to pick Joey up from college.  The trip over was done in one day.  Yes, it seemed like it was a long day however, we had the younger boys with us this time and our time was spent showing them the sites as well as talking.  My mother-in-law had given us some car bingo game boards and wouldn’t you know it, I left them on the coffee table when we left.  I was so upset with myself.  But we had fun playing the license plate game and our version of car wars. May 04 2012_3693    May 04 2012_3708    May 04 2012_3674    May 04 2012_3672The weather was not the greatest as it rained all the way there and back.  But at least there wasn’t storms.  I will have to remember to always have umbrellas with us on trips.

We picked up a couple of souvenirs at the huge white cross in Effingham, IL.  I still can’t get over just how wide Missouri is.  It seem like it took forever to get through.  And all along the way the same billboard, which was done different on everyone but none the less for the same place.  And when we first starting reading them it sounded fun, but after a while it was a real turnoff.

Finally, we got to the hotel, and all any of us wanted to do was to go to bed.  Well ,all of us except Joey.  Good thing the hotel was just across the street and all he had to do was walk over. Aug 12 2011_1824

So the next morning, we all got up, had breakfast and went over to get Joey and the rest of his stuff.  He was at least smart enough (thanks to his dad) to get a storage unit that he is splitting with other ORU students so that we don’t have to keep toting everything back and forth.  After showing the boys around the campus, and seeing the inside of ORU’s new “Hammer” building we took to the road again. May 05 2012_3568  May 05 2012_3579  May 05 2012_3583    May 05 2012_3596

Although I brought a lot of snacks we really need to get lunch so here is where we stopped at.    May 05 2012_3634

If you look closely, you can see that you can drive right under it.  The kids and I thought it was pretty neat.  However, it could use a makeover.  Again the drive was long, but we decided to go back in two days as opposed to one, like we did getting there.  I think Sam enjoyed staying at the hotels the most.  I could see the excitement in his eyes.  The newness of the towns the way people do things and then to have a place that had beds that they didn’t have to make up or the free breakfast just down stairs that he didn’t have to wait on.  Well that was just the best!  We did make one stop on the way home that everyone wanted to see when we saw a sign for it.    May 05 2012_3644

Yes, it was a little off our track, but who else can say that they have seen the world largest rocker.  Now we can.  The had a little shop next to it and some of the stuff in there was a little creepy and neat.    May 05 2012_3658

Believe it or not, but that sign was in the ladies restroom along with other items that are less than appealing when you need to go.    Well now we are home and we are back to the usual of taking Joey back and forth to work while still home schooling the boys and Sierra is studying for finals.  I can’t believe that next year we will have a sophomore in college, a junior in high school and a freshman in high school, plus a 6th. grader.  This Friday I am getting three of my sister’s kids as they are in the process of moving.  I told her she wasn’t getting any of them back.  I just love them to death.  They are the sweetest and some of the smartest littles that I have seen.  (Bragging Aunt here)   Well now you’re caught up.  Until next time gang.

The Attack is ON

Ok, so lately (like the last 15 years or so), we have been under attack.  We Americans, We Christians, We married, We stay at home moms.  Now I’m not a person who likes to go looking for a fight, but enough is enough.  Recently, we (Americans) were under attack in Boston.  The hubby and I just happened to have the t.v. on the Fox channel and watched in shock and not so shocked amazement.  We are shocked over the fact that people still have so little care over killing people that they don’t even know.  Killing people of all ages, nationalities, and beliefs.  People, who have put everything aside, who have been training for who knows how long,  to compete in a physical race that most of us wouldn’t even know how to begin except for placing our feet on the starting line.  And after the first line of bloodshed and mayhem, we then pray.  We pray for everyone.  All of those who were running, all who were waiting on the side for their loved ones, all those who were volunteering  all those who went running towards the destruction instead of running away, all those who couldn’t contact each other, all of the doctors and nurses who would have to deal with the trauma coming  through the hospital doors.

We were not so shocked that there are still terrorists running around in our country.  We were not so shocked that the government messed up (again) in allowing them to be here.  We were not so shocked that they were able to get the supplies that they needed to pull of this mass destruction.  And sadly we were not so shocked to see that they, (the ones who pulled it off)  were so young.

When I am asked to pray for someone, I do it with my full heart and soul.  Because I believe in the power of prayer.  But if I express my belief in the Bible or of Jesus, I get criticized for doing it.  I get labeled a hater. All over twitter and Facebook people were sending out words of encouragement and prayers.  I did not see one person telling another to stop.  I did however see a lot of people asking for more and more prayer though.  Funny, how when they don’t see what else can be done by them, they turn to the Christian and ask them to pray.  Without a moment of hesitation or guilt for the words they had just used to try to cut you down with.

If you are married to the opposite sex, lookout!  You are going to (if you haven’t already) get hit with mean and ugly looks from those who are trying to get away with marrying the same-sex.  I’ll be quite honest with you, when I was a teen, I rarely saw or heard about homosexuals.  When I did, I thought that it was a “phase or trendy” thing that would go away with some time (or when common sense kicked in).  But now, I supposed to believe that my marriage is in the minority of what people think is acceptable!  I think that these are the people who need the most prayer.  I do believe that they are lost in what is the difference between right and wrong.

And now I’ve got this Melissa Harris-Perry lady telling the world that their children, my children don’t “belong” to me.  That they belong to the community! What a load of bull!!!  After I raise them they become a part of the community that they choose to live in.  In the manner that they choose to live. Not the community telling me how to raise my child that God gave to me.  I don’t go at this alone.  I have God, my husband, my friends and family on both sides, and Church.  And I would love to see if (which I am really thinking that this is the case) she is trying to get God and the Church out of my children’s lives.  And then at the end of her little video she has “lead forward”, which is an attempt to show that she supports Obama. Here is the link to the video if you would like to see it.   http://www.nbcnews.com/id/51498490/t/caring-children-share-your-story/#.UXi7OaJJ7DM      As if that is in her favor.  Not where I am concerned it isn’t.

So now I sit here typing as all of my rights are being taken away from me and I’m not supposed to do anything about it.  I am no longer allowed to be me, myself in a land that I was born in, which is supposed to be free.  Which is supposed to have given me rights and has had those rights upheld for hundred of years from men, and now women, who have died for you and me.  Yes, my friend, the attack in on.  I’ll just leave you with these few scriptures to think about before you leave.  John 7:7  The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.    2 Peter 2:12-15    But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time.  Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: Which have forsaken the right way , and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bo-sor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

Those Rocks I’m In Between

Ever feel like the saying: ” I’m between a rock and a hard place.”, When everyone around you thinks you have a handle on everything?  I get like that a lot.  I learned from a young age to fight for what I believe in and to stand up for myself.  So as I grew, people didn’t worry about whether or not I could handle anything, they expected it.  I heard for years: “You’re so strong. You can do it.”  All the while, I was shaking inside.  Wondering whether or not I was making right decisions.  I developed an ulcer in my teens because of it.  I was given problems too adult for a child to undertake.  I was looked at as grown-up in a child’s body.  I still encounter times when I have to ask for help.  I don’t like do it.  People tend to judge you as weak.  But I learned early that there was always One that I could count on to help me no matter what.  He would always be there holding my hand and guiding me through.  He makes everything easier and clearer.  I never have to go hunting for Him.  He is just a name away.  That name is Jesus!

Teachers Of God Awake!!!

Have you answered the calling that the Lord Almighty has placed on you Christian?  Isaiah 52 has a great command for every Child of God.  As you read it, you can hear his desperation and then peace in his voice.  Too long has the Christian community slumbered.  We wake with the alarm and then hit the snooze button falling back to sleep.  Allowing dreams and fantasies to cloud our thoughts and hearing until the alarm goes off again.

The eyes of heaven are upon us.  The look at those who God loves and those who love God.  The look with awe.  For we have been given undersvering privileges.  Privileges that we take for granted.  Psalm 8:4  What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?  1 Chronicles 16:23  We are told to tell all who will listen the good news.  We are called to teach it to them.  Who have you taught lately?  Teachers aren’t just the minister and preachers of our churches.

My children attend public school.  We do not always agree with their “teachers”.  But the reason is quite simple.  My husband and I are their Authorized Teachers.  Not those at their school.  No they are merely tools in aiding us in their education.  The same can be said of all the ministers and preachers in our church.  We know not what tomorrow holds.  We know only of the moment we have.  The work we do in that moment determines our willingness to obey.  A new year is upon us.  Have you set your alarm?  Are you prepared to get up when it goes off?  Or will you hit the snooze just one more time?

What My Eyes See

There are very few shows on T.V. that I enjoy watching.  Which is quite different from when I was little.  I spent a great deal of time in front of the television.  I would even stand there and recite all the commercials word for word.  Television is meant to be a form of entertainment and not a life style.  My hubby and I have set rules to watching for our kids.  Most of the shows out there are not what we would consider as entertaining.  More like dumbing down the way of thinking so that they can have more of an influence over you, all the while making you feel as though it is your idea or way of thinking.  Over the years, when I’ve talked to people about the shows they watch it is amazes me the things they allow in their eyes and ears.

A lot of parents know that they need to monitor what their children watch.  However, there are a lot who will give in to their children’s pressure or the idea that there is nothing else for them to watch.  Therefore allowing them to watch shows that they know that aren’t of any real form of entertainment but out of appeasement.   I think the thing that confuses me the most are the shows that gain popularity solely based on their stupidity.  I’ve heard people say that they DVR a show so that they won’t have to worry about the kids seeing it.  There by admitting that it isn’t appropriate for a general audience.  As if, you’re protecting them.  They don’t stop to think that if the children of the house need protection from such shows then they also need protection from them. They wouldn’t allow a naked person to stand in their living room and yet allow a naked (or half-naked) person to appear on their screens.  They know that shooting and stealing is wrong and yet “enjoy” watching it on t.v.  People work hard on having a good reputation of being a good parent and yet kick back and watch the media put parenting down every way possible and laugh about it.  The main excuse I hear is the fact that it is only pretend and not real life.  Which should be reevaluated by some, considering that a lot of shows are now based real events that have happened in the world.  Proverbs 27:20 Hell and Destruction are never full; So the eyes of man are never satisfied.

This doesn’t even cover the commercials.  Where you are told what to buy, where to buy, how much to buy, etc. Psalm 73:7 Their eyes bulge with abundance; They have more than heart could wish.  And in between those you have advertisements for other shows to watch.  Most of them promoting sex and violence in one form or another.  I use to watch Dancing With The Stars.  I found it interesting how people from different areas of the media would learn how to dance and improve on this skill.  However, I stopped watching this last season when they announced that a “transgender” was going to be on.  That life style is against my beliefs.  Therefore, I could not promote it by watching.  This was a show that I could even allow my kids to watch.  Even though the “celebs” were not always people that I watched on another show or even knew, the show itself was acceptable for my family.  When it went against our beliefs, and held that lifestyle up as if it’s ok, then I stopped.  I actually did a double take on the shows that we do watch.  I wanted to make sure that there wasn’t anything that I would be ashamed of being on the t.v. if I had company in my house or young children.  Because of this decision I have been called a “hater”.  Ok, I can live with that.  Names don’t bother me as long as they don’t bother my kids.  I don’t hate by the way.  I don’t have faith in that lifestyle.  It is not of God to live that way.  Because He doesn’t accept it neither do I.  This doesn’t mean I hate the person.  And I only bring up this show as an example because it is the most resent of the shows that I have stopped watching.  I didn’t need a poll of people to tell me what was right or wrong, just God.  There is a saying, “Your eyes are the gateway to your soul.”  Meaning that whatever you place your eyes upon you also place it upon your soul.  Ask yourself this question:  What makes it ok for me to watch and not a child?  If you have maturity and understanding of something that is wrong, then wouldn’t you have the maturity and understanding of not permitting that anywhere in your life?  When we fix our eyes on God, does it mean that we turn Him off when we turn on the t.v.?

I Brag On You, He Brags On Me

Mr. and Mrs. So and so were able to get the house, My kid made the honor roll, Mary volunteers at the community center, Paul helped someone whose car broke down on the side of the road, My neighbor comes and cuts my grass, That couple is engaged, They’re expecting their first baby.

Throughout the Bible we can hear God brag on His children.  Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.  1 Kings 3:10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.  Job 2:3 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause.”  Daniel 6: 22 My God sent His angel and shut the lions mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.”  Matthew 3:17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

How many times a day do you brag on someone?  I know that there can be days where it is hard to see the good in people.  Their attitude is bad for some reason, or maybe it is yours that is bad.  But generally, on any given day, with everyone you see, you can find something that they say all the time, or do all the time, that is helpful or good to others.  Helpful  and good enough to brag to others.  The thing is, it doesn’t have to be something grand or super special, although those are nice to hear.  No, it can be a small thing like someone saving a seat for someone, or opening a door.

Here is a question for you.  When you brag on a person, don’t you feel happy?  You’re not the one doing the good deed, but you do get to reap a reward when you spread the word around about it.  Yes, we must be careful and not allow false pride to slip in when we are speaking about loved ones like our children.  But when you see a person do anything because it’s the right thing to do or because they feel called to do it, there is a genuine reason to brag about them.  And you do get to be blessed within your spirit when doing so.

Here is another question for you.  Do you think God brags about you? When He looks at you, are you giving Him reasons to say , “Look at my child, I am pleased with them.”  Or maybe you think that God only did that in Biblical days.  Really!?!  Lets look at that a little.  When a child does something good in the eyes around him, we tell all who will listen.  Then what do we do?  We reward them for doing the right thing.  Well then, are you not receiving rewards of blessings when you do something good in the eyes of God?  When we give good sacrifices it brings a sweet aroma to God.  It pleases Him.  The angels watch us with amazement.  For God has told them of us and about us.  He does not group you .  For He listens to every prayer individually, and answers them accordingly.  Why then would He not brag on you and reward you the same?  Listen, when God is pleased with you, your name goes throughout all the heavens for all to hear.  And those whose hear His voice get pleased and blessed by it as well.

I have a habit that I want to keep forever.  As much as I love to brag on my kids, what I love even more is the chances I get to brag on God.  Whenever I can.  I get filled when I get to tell others what he has done in my life.  How he has changed me for the better.  The wonderful gifts that He has felt gracious enough to give me.  Bragging can be a wonderful thing, when you brag on the right people, for the right reasons.  So test yourself and see just how many rewards you gather when you brag.
