We Just Need To Practice

Hey there everyone,

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.  I most certainly did.  My oldest came home from college for Christmas, my daughter turned 17 (She is making me and the hubby old very fast.)  She also got a job right before her birthday (Which is one week before Christmas).  We all celebrated my three holidays together at home with no big hoop la.  Which was just fine with all of us.

At the beginning of each year you might be finding yourself looking back.  People like to see what if anything they got accomplished and what they didn’t.  They make new goals for the upcoming months.  They try to adopt new, better habits.  One thing I have found is that they don’t set these out on a day-to-day basis.  No they spread them out over an entire year.  Yes, I realize that there are some that may take that long.  But ask yourself when you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Is it the tasks that need to be done? Or perhaps a soreness/pain you may have for sleeping different then you needed.  I could list a whole number of things that ; not only have I said to myself, but have heard others as well.  We are to begin each day a new. With the joy of the Lord.   Not with bitterness or need.  In order to do this all it takes is …… practice.  Practice means that you are trying each and every day with all you mind, body, and soul.  Practice means you won’t get it perfected or even do it some days.  It means you are trying.  That you are actually doing it with a good heart.  Practice mean you have taken you out of it and are doing it for the Lord.

I don’t understand why people are putting so much disgust on themselves at the beginning of each year.  They haven’t lost enough weight, gotten any healthier, saved enough money, given enough money and so on. So what?!? Do the best you can with what you have daily and let God handle the rest.  Before you know it; it will be a new healthier, happier, habit and a wonderful start to your day.  Now for those who might be keeping score, I know that I didn’t write a whole lot last year, but within that time that I did these are the words I used most.

Angels, Bible, Child, Children, Christ, Christian, Church, Churches, Control, Faith, Family, Glory, God, Good, Gospel, Grace, Hear, Hearts, Jesus, Kids, Learn, Lessons, Life, Listen, Lord, Love, Luke, Man, Marriage, Matthew, Mercy, Mistakes, MS, Music, ORU, Parents, Pastor, People, Religion, Speak, Spirit, Trouble, Women, Word, Work.

Is It Any Of Your Business?

My oldest sent me a video of a comic who was talking about how Christians aren’t suppose to curse.  I found the video somewhat funny, but I also got the thoughts out of it as to how fingers are pointed at Christians if and when we mess up.  In the heat of a moment, whether it be a physical pain, or an emotional one, when you’re hit right out of the blue, we “Christians” have cursed.  I get after my kids all the time for this.  My kids don’t use the ordinary curse words.  As a matter of fact, my daughter used to say “tartar sauce” when she was younger, for something that she didn’t like.  She knew that cursing was wrong so she “used her words”.  At the time, we allowed her to do so.  We had the mind-set that she had found a way around cursing and the way she would say it, was kind of cute.  However today, we understand that what stands behind any word that is spoken is where the power of any cursing is at.  So that now when we hear that which is behind the words that are against the good of God, we will tell them to stop cursing.  Then we have to explain to them, well at least the younger ones, that they are cursing.

Then later in the week I was speaking to one of my neighbors and he was explaining to me how another neighbor told him that because he is a “Christian” that he couldn’t get mad at him for anything he may have done to him.  Seriously!!!  Christians are not allowed to get mad?!?  Give me a break.  We are all human.  And as such we all have the same emotions.  I will say that as a Christian, I do try to keep control of my emotions.  I do so so that they don’t control me.  However, there are times when everyone get mad, sad, upset, depressed, happy, joyful, and overwhelmed.

When I was young, my mom use to tell me all the time, (and now I tell my own kids) to mind my business and not the business of others.  My kids have a (bad) habit of helping when it isn’t asked for.  They see something that needs done and then they take over and do it.  The person who was to do it in the first place then gets upset and complains.  I have to remind them that one should not help unless they are asked to help.  My kids have come home from school and given me detailed info on a friend or a classmate that is not what we would call “good news”.  And their opinion about the situation then follows.  I listen because I don’t want them to think that I don’t care about them (the child talking).  But then, I have to ask them, what business is it of yours?  Usually the answer is none.  As Christians we are to tell of the gospel and lead people to Christ.  That is our business.  But to criticize others for the business of their own is not ours to do.  We are to stay away from the worldly ways.  And that is of the world.

I have found, as a general rule, that people like to think that they know better than another.  People have opinions about everything and a lot of them think that they have the “right” to express them to the ones that they feel are doing things wrong.  If we Christians, would only look on the business of God, then we would be keeping in our own business.  Stop looking into the business of the world.  Live your life in your business.  Express the love of God.  So that the world will then come and ask you for the help that they need.

Why Haven’t You Written

I have received some e-mails  asking why I haven’t been writing for over a week and even have been asked by my kids. As if there is something wrong with me.The truth is when I write, I do so because I am inspired by God for one reason or another.Sometimes I will hear something that strikes a cord in me or Usually I will read something. Then there are some things I will see. I have gotten confirmation of my writings when I hear people, usually our pastor(who appears to be in constant prayer) will repeat a line that I’ve already posted. That’s right an entire word for word line.  Last time it was garbage in garbage out.  A friend of mine calls that a God wink. I call it remarkable! The fact that God will press a word on people and those of us who will listen come back with the exact same words just astounded me. If people didn’t know ahead of time what I had written one might that I had copied off of others. Which would make me or anyone  else a fake and not trust worthy. I so enjoy being able to write and then hear others confirm those words that God Himself has placed on my heart.  I know that there are still a lot of people who do not think or believe that God speaks directly to people anymore answer that to hear him you have to read His word.  I agree that you can hear Him thru reading the Bible. BUT I also believe that he speaks to each of us whether we listen to what He is saying to us is another story. I haven written on this subject before.

He Wants To Hear

The past couple of weeks I have been driving to my sister’s house to teach one of my nephews how to read and write.  He blessed me by asking me to do so.  He is only 4, but his personality is that of a tween sometimes.  As we go through our tasks, I will ask him what something is.  Like a letter or a word on a page.  He likes to show it to me by pointing to it.  I have to ask him to say it.  This gives me a better idea of what he is learning and the of his strength of abilities.  I then, more often than not, will get a scrunched up face as he tells me what it is. This is where I have to contain myself from giggling.  He is just so darn cute.  The other night, the family was sitting down to dinner.  As I was saying my grace over the meal, I heard “Tell Me you love Me.”

This time, I was the one doing the pointing.  “Look, look at all the things that I do to show that I love you.  I tell people all the time how much I love you.”  As I was speaking, I felt my face scrunch up.  My eyebrows drew closer together; my lips pursed tightly, as I sunk my head even lower.  He said again, “Tell Me you love Me.  I want to hear it.” This time, I got it.  My heart filled up with gratitude as I answered Him and said, “I love You my dear God.”

Have you ever watched a show or movie and one person will say I love you and the other person just smiles and nods, or might say, me too.  It just isn’t the same.  You can feel the tension that the person has trying to say those words.  It makes me ache inside.  You can sometimes hear me, “Just say the words.  It won’t kill you.  Let them know that you really do love them.”  The hubby and I say we love each other all the time.  At times, I’m sure that we say it so much that we get on other people’s nerves.  Not that we care.  Because we know, just how important it is to the other that they get to hear it.  There are those who might claim that they don’t need to hear it all the time.  I have a hard time really believing that.  As we go through life, we reaffirm everything we do.  So even though my hubby shows me his love for me all the time, it is so sweet and touches my soul deeply when he tells me that he loves me.  I do not understand how it could not be the same with others unless their hearts are hardened a bit in that area.

When we pray, we are to come to Him with all humility.  We are to keep Him in front of us and give Him everything that we possess.  That includes our words.  Yes, He already knows how we feel about and for Him. And, no He doesn’t need to hear it. But just like us, He wants to hear it.  Not only to say, “I love God, but to also say God, I love You.”  When you are able and willing to say it, you will feel such a release of burden and hardened heart.  Because the moment you do, God is saying those exact same words right back to you.  That, my friend, is such an awesome feeling.

When it is time for me to leave after teaching my nephew, I give him a squeeze and tell him that I love him. I never want him to forget the love that I have for him.  I want it to be the last impression he has of me. He keeps his head down, but peers up at me with a smile and repeats back to me, “I love you.”  When I hear that sweet voice say those words to me, my heart melts.  Heart melting is the work of God.  For God is love.  1 John 4:8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.  Do not hold back your love for God.  Tell Him when you pray.  Tell Him when you are blessed.  Tell Him when you are in trouble.  Just never forget to tell Him.

Are You At War Within Yourself?

There’s a war inside of me. Between who I want to be. There’s a war inside of me. Between who I want to be and who I am.  These are lyrics to a song by Todd Agnew.  If you ever get a chance to listen to it with your spirit, I’m sure that you will find yourself saying that it’s true.  We battle within ourselves everyday. So no, you’re not crazy or have multiple personalities. Trying to decide on whether or not we are doing something for God’s glory or if we are glorifying ourselves.

We can understand better when we read in Romans 7:14-25  Paul explains that we all have sin dwelling within us.  But that, how we wield it is the important thing.  Read verse 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.  If we can learn to practice doing good, we will in turn be becoming more Christ like.  We all seem to have areas in our lives that have a hard time grabbing a hold of.  They can eat at you.  The whole time you do it you’re thinking about how you shouldn’t be doing it or the feeling of guilt comes over you after you’re done.

My own confession of this will come later: two weeks from now.

As I have said before, we will have to give an account for our actions.  Matthew 12:36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. When reading that do not think that it is only words.  For remember actions speak louder than words.  Our actions, are due to what we have traveling through that mind of ours.  1 Peter 1:13  Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

What you see; what you hear gets put into your mind.  What is in your mind, gets put into your heart. Now I don’t believe in hypnosis.  Say what you will, but I think that those people (if they truly are hypnotised) are weak spirited people. But have you ever heard of those tapes that one puts on at night and listens to as they fall asleep.  Some of them talk about how beautiful you are, others try to curb your eating.  But if you think about it, when you listen to anything long enough you will believe the words that are being spoken.

So what war do you have battling you?  Are you one who thinks you can handle it on your own?  Are you seeking help for it?  If so, is the help you’re seeking from God or man?  Because remember he has a war of his own.
