We Just Need To Practice

Hey there everyone,

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.  I most certainly did.  My oldest came home from college for Christmas, my daughter turned 17 (She is making me and the hubby old very fast.)  She also got a job right before her birthday (Which is one week before Christmas).  We all celebrated my three holidays together at home with no big hoop la.  Which was just fine with all of us.

At the beginning of each year you might be finding yourself looking back.  People like to see what if anything they got accomplished and what they didn’t.  They make new goals for the upcoming months.  They try to adopt new, better habits.  One thing I have found is that they don’t set these out on a day-to-day basis.  No they spread them out over an entire year.  Yes, I realize that there are some that may take that long.  But ask yourself when you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Is it the tasks that need to be done? Or perhaps a soreness/pain you may have for sleeping different then you needed.  I could list a whole number of things that ; not only have I said to myself, but have heard others as well.  We are to begin each day a new. With the joy of the Lord.   Not with bitterness or need.  In order to do this all it takes is …… practice.  Practice means that you are trying each and every day with all you mind, body, and soul.  Practice means you won’t get it perfected or even do it some days.  It means you are trying.  That you are actually doing it with a good heart.  Practice mean you have taken you out of it and are doing it for the Lord.

I don’t understand why people are putting so much disgust on themselves at the beginning of each year.  They haven’t lost enough weight, gotten any healthier, saved enough money, given enough money and so on. So what?!? Do the best you can with what you have daily and let God handle the rest.  Before you know it; it will be a new healthier, happier, habit and a wonderful start to your day.  Now for those who might be keeping score, I know that I didn’t write a whole lot last year, but within that time that I did these are the words I used most.

Angels, Bible, Child, Children, Christ, Christian, Church, Churches, Control, Faith, Family, Glory, God, Good, Gospel, Grace, Hear, Hearts, Jesus, Kids, Learn, Lessons, Life, Listen, Lord, Love, Luke, Man, Marriage, Matthew, Mercy, Mistakes, MS, Music, ORU, Parents, Pastor, People, Religion, Speak, Spirit, Trouble, Women, Word, Work.

Blinded

It is our norm to eat dinner at home every night.  I like to hear events that have happened in my family’s life during the day, with all the chaos and laughter that comes with it. (Although maybe not every night with the chaos. LOL) Our dining room area faces the west.  So we get the evening sun shining through as we eat.  There are times though, when the sun comes in so brightly that we have to close the shades to our sliding glass doors.  We have tried several different ways to allow the blinds to be open while we eat, but usually, the sun ends up in someone’s eyes.  This can make it very difficult to enjoy your meal and company.  It shines with great force as it comes through the glass into your line of sight.  You can turn your head, scoot around in your seat, place your free hand between you and the glare, but it doesn’t stop it from shining through.   No, you have to put a barrier between you and the glass (the blinds) in order to see everything around you.

I happen to like the sun coming in. Even when it blinds my sight. It warms me as it hits my face.  It adds a wonderful glow to the room and the faces I see.  I am able to see more clearly and without having to strain my eyes.  The other night as we were eating the sun was shining in as usual and my middle son was blinded by it.  So he asked if he could close the blinds.  I agreed, and as he was turning the wand it came to me……..  Revelation 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches.  I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” Did you get that last part? Morning Star.

How many times do we close the blinds to God?  When all we want to see is everything else around us, without Him.   He shines in allowing us to see more clearly and without strain.   Instead of remembering, that we are to look only at Him, rather than the things or people around us.  Jesus shines down on us and makes the way so that we can truly see.  We aren’t supposed to be looking at anything else.  But our eyes are overwhelmed by the light and instead of allowing the time to get used to it, we immediately turn away to see that which stays in the shadow of the Light.  John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying “I am the light of the world, He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”  We should remind ourselves that even when we place a blinder between us and the sun; it doesn’t stop the sun from shining.  The same is also true with God.  He doesn’t stop shining on even though we have blinders blocking Him.  He waits patiently.  The blinder you might be placing in front of you, are they worth it?  Have you gone through and decorated them so that they look so pretty.  Did you know that you are disguising them, so that you can deceive not only others but yourself as well?  How long have you held on to them? Do you think you might ever let them go?  For those of you who may not know how, I ask that you pray, look to the Son, and He will show you the way.  As for my family, I think we will start adjusting to the sun shine at dinner as a reminder of His love and mercy.  So that we will allow that love and mercy to burn through the barriers we have place up in our lives.  Keeping us able to be fixed on Him, no matter what else is being shown around us.

What Fear Do You Have?

And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation. Luke 1:50

What do you fear? Fear has different meanings.  How you use it, is of the utmost importance. Fear can be a strong driving force in a person’s life.  It can have a hold of a person so much that it controls their every move or thought.  Fear can causes anxiety and obsession.  Fear can also be given in awe.  It can show that you have great reverence toward God.

Have you ever taken the time to watch and understand what people fear?  They stop themselves from truly living for fear of what they don’t know or understand.  It can hinder the enjoyment of everyone around them.  There are all kinds of phobias out there. And there are all kinds of people who have them.  I know a lot of people who are afraid of spiders.  If they even hear about spiders, they start to sweat and shrink inside themselves.  They will do everything that they possibly can to not have to be near, or hear about them.  The fear of the spider has just gained control of where they go and what conversations they have. There are people who are afraid of heights.  I have read stories that have described some people so afraid that they can’t even go on the second floor of any building.  The anxiety of what might happen to them holds them hostage to it.  Controlling where they go and who they can visit.  Their fear cuts them out of aspects of life.

These fears can lead into worry, guilt, and destruction.  Such intimidation should not be tolerated in one’s life.  Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.  Understanding and trusting in the Lord to take care of everything that comes against you can at times, seem impossible.  When I learned that my son has lesions on his brain, I went into complete craziness.  For I allowed the fear of what it might mean for him to consume me.  But knowing that I have a savior who has already fought and won over all evil, brought me peace.  When I laid down all trouble and worry that I was having over him, God pulled me in closer to Him and gave me comfort.  Because He was so gracious in doing this, I fear Him even more.  God shows us His awesome mercy and grace every day.  That alone should be enough to fear him.  But He does so much more.  He has allowed Jesus to conquer all that will come against me.  That includes the spirit of fear.  2 Timothy 1:7 For god has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

To hold your faith in the fear of God will allow you to grow deeper in His love.  Psalm 147:11 The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy.  To hold your faith in fear………… is allowing yourself to die.

The Battle Of The Church

We all live. We all breathe air. We are a child from someone.  We all wear cloths.  We all get sick. We all have to take showers. We all have to shop. We all teach. We all will have to see the dentist. We all work at something.  We all have to use the bathroom.  We all have to eat. We all sleep. We all speak. We all experience joy.  We all experience pain. We all have big toes.  We all learn. We all have hard times.  We all laugh.  We all cry.  We all die.

There are great fights within our church.

When we look at one another, do you see all that we have in common?  The differences between us are our morals.  Morals are what we believe is true and righteous.  Proverbs 16: 8 Better is a little with righteousness, Than vast revenues with out justice. When you have the Lords righteousness, it doesn’t matter what else you don’t have.  So, even though we may not have the same practices we have a higher bond in common.

We don’t all believe in the same things.  Even those of us who believe in God, don’t believe another way of worship is better than the one we are currently doing.  The main point, God, gets left out of a lot due to the “way we do things”, or “rules” being put in the forefront.  And there causes the split between us. The same can be said with secular life.  One company does things one way and another company does it their way.  Both ways may be good, but both believe that their way is the only way.  Or you could even look at a dinner.  Two people can cook the exact same meal, the difference is how the meal is prepared.  No matter if different ingredients are used, or how prep is done.  And even though they may taste different, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s the same meal.

I believe that the Lord loves variety. Let me show you.

Trees are trees.  God has graced us with a variety of different kinds. But, when we look at each category of trees, we can find so much more. Example: the Maple.  Did you know, that there are approximately 129 different kinds of Maple trees.  This doesn’t change the fact that they are still trees. People are the same.  There are people living in approximately 195 different countries in the world.  We have 3 categories of races, with about 5000 different ethnic groups, give or take.  Again, it doesn’t change the fact that we are all people.  Just the way we go about living out our moral beliefs.

When we see people who live against our morals, it can be very hard to not judge them.  Our way of thinking must be the first thing to change if we are all wanting to live together for the glory of God.  We must see the person before we cast judgement of sin on them.  For it is only God’s judgement that holds true. (Although there are many scriptures that I can place here, I will leave you with this one.) Psalm 7:8 The Lord shall judge the peoples; Judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness, And according to my integrity within me. We must make sure that our morals line up with His.  We must pray God will use us as an example of His mercy and grace.  We must see that there are varieties within varieties, within varieties. We must look away from our differences. We must see that it is God, that is our common ground.  Romans 12:3  For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

The word measure doesn’t just mean portion or quantity.  It also means a standard.  For the fighting to end within the church, I will ask you, just whose standards are you going by, and how much of that standard do you use?  Although this battle has been going on for thousands of years, I pray that the church starts to see past the differences and see God.
