Why do you HATE me?

Do you know of someone who dislikes the “Church?” I have heard several people within my lifetime try their hardest to disgrace the Church. When I was younger, I couldn’t understand as to why they felt the way they do.  But as I look into the world, I can see, that you just want to do what ever you feel... no matter how harmful it might be to someone else or yourself for that matter. You don’t like to have to take responsibility for your actions or lack of, and don’t want to see the harm. Now if you look up the word Church you will find where it talks about a building. But if you ask a Christian, you just might get several answers depending on their personal denomination.  I am Pentecostal.

For me, the word Church, has many meanings. Yes, the obvious one is an actual place with a roof and walls where other Christians gather around to worship, fellowship and understanding of God’s word. It is a place where I feel safe from the world and all the problems with it. Where I can relate to others and what they are going through. Where I can find support for the mayhem that maybe around me. But Church is without a doubt, so much more.

It is the place within myself where I can talk to God. Church is within my prayers. I can go within myself, so to speak, and find the peace that God has laid on my heart and soul. Church is within my worship. When I sing a song about Him, I sing to Him. I get a built up strength of God just for me. I can feel the walls of my faith getting stronger and yet having support all at once.

It is a place where my family is. It can be anywhere. If I am with my family, we will show God’s love and understanding for one another within our tiny means. We lift each other up, so that the other doesn’t feel far from God, or causes harm. We understand that not each of us are perfect and we don’t expect the others to be also. We talk to one another. We clear the air. We rely on one another.

When we have people who don’t understand just what they are saying when they say, “I hate Church”, my heart just aches. Church is personal to me. It is where my spirit soars. When you confess out hatred to the Church, you are, whether you mean it this way or not, confessing hatred at me, because I am part of the Church and it is a part of me.  I also heard them then try to twist it by saying, “well I mean “Religion”.  But my faith; what I believe in, is my Religion. I have faith in the Church and there are no two ways about it.  So their statement is still the same.  I know, some people might say that I’m being too sensitive.  That I need not to take things sooo personally. But let me ask them this.  If I were to say I hate anyone who is this or that and your love was this or that, would you not take that personally also.  Of course you would.  People have been doing this kind of thing since people have been around.  But, it seems to be easier for people to attack the One that they don’t want to see.

I believe in God, three in one. I believe in the church that He is building.  I believe in the word of God; the Bible.  I am a grown woman with a grown mind.  No one makes me or harasses me into any of it.  I do this of my own free will. {Which by the way was given to me by God}

With just some of the reasons I have now expressed, let me say that I can and do understand when people get hurt by “the Church.” I too have met with people who aren’t exactly what I would call loving. Or ministers who preach their own agenda in place of God’s will.  I cry for such people.  I don’t understand such people.  I get angry that these people who attack my God. I want to tell them off.  I want to tell them to find another Church.  I want to smack some Holy Spirit into them.   But as a Christian, I can only have one answer for these people of hate.  Prayer.

You read it right, when you don’t like the Church, it is the only place I can go.  Because I know it is safe, it is my worship place, it is where my family is. It is a my place of happiness and joy.  It is where God is.

We Just Need To Practice

Hey there everyone,

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.  I most certainly did.  My oldest came home from college for Christmas, my daughter turned 17 (She is making me and the hubby old very fast.)  She also got a job right before her birthday (Which is one week before Christmas).  We all celebrated my three holidays together at home with no big hoop la.  Which was just fine with all of us.

At the beginning of each year you might be finding yourself looking back.  People like to see what if anything they got accomplished and what they didn’t.  They make new goals for the upcoming months.  They try to adopt new, better habits.  One thing I have found is that they don’t set these out on a day-to-day basis.  No they spread them out over an entire year.  Yes, I realize that there are some that may take that long.  But ask yourself when you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Is it the tasks that need to be done? Or perhaps a soreness/pain you may have for sleeping different then you needed.  I could list a whole number of things that ; not only have I said to myself, but have heard others as well.  We are to begin each day a new. With the joy of the Lord.   Not with bitterness or need.  In order to do this all it takes is …… practice.  Practice means that you are trying each and every day with all you mind, body, and soul.  Practice means you won’t get it perfected or even do it some days.  It means you are trying.  That you are actually doing it with a good heart.  Practice mean you have taken you out of it and are doing it for the Lord.

I don’t understand why people are putting so much disgust on themselves at the beginning of each year.  They haven’t lost enough weight, gotten any healthier, saved enough money, given enough money and so on. So what?!? Do the best you can with what you have daily and let God handle the rest.  Before you know it; it will be a new healthier, happier, habit and a wonderful start to your day.  Now for those who might be keeping score, I know that I didn’t write a whole lot last year, but within that time that I did these are the words I used most.

Angels, Bible, Child, Children, Christ, Christian, Church, Churches, Control, Faith, Family, Glory, God, Good, Gospel, Grace, Hear, Hearts, Jesus, Kids, Learn, Lessons, Life, Listen, Lord, Love, Luke, Man, Marriage, Matthew, Mercy, Mistakes, MS, Music, ORU, Parents, Pastor, People, Religion, Speak, Spirit, Trouble, Women, Word, Work.

I like to leave you with a song that I heard on a CD that my sister had a long time ago.  The song might be an old one but it still holds.

Following Christ Comes At A Cost

I tell people all the time, if you don’t want to know my answer then don’t ask the question.  Well with all that has come to light with Phil Robertson, one should ask themselves what they are willing to say and or do for the name of Christ.  Every Christian knows (or should know) that following Christ comes at a cost.  Christ himself gave up his life for Gods glory.  People have been known to give up their friends and family after being saved.  Because the people that they have known for many years, the people that they have loved, supported, shared things with, and invested everything in are unwilling to tolerate their new life.  Why?  Because they are part of the world.  The world has no time or will for God.  The world doesn’t want any part of God in any way, shape or form.  They like staying blind.  They like living in sin.  They really like the false control of their lives they think they have.  The world tries desperately to get Christians to turn their faith against God.  Going through everyday life you have them attacking you from what you eat to what you wear.  From what you drive to what kind of job you have.  From the treatment of medicine you get to how you parent.  And if you stand up for your faith and go against what the world wants they call names and say that you’re the one at fault.  As if you’re the one being a bad person.  Because they have their own idea of what a Christian is and if you don’t fall into their check list of tolerance then they mock you.  Trying their best to ruin your reputation with the world itself.  They don’t understand that it is only the reputation you have with God that is important.  I was just in awe when I was on Twitter and Facebook with all the support that people were giving out to Phil.  The thing was though it wasn’t just Christians that were supporting Phil, there were also people outside of the church stating that he had the right to his opinion.  Which I don’t believe he was doing, I think he was stating his faith, what he believes in.  But I do appreciate what they were doing.   Phil quoted scripture and stated his faith.  Which in my opinion, is more than stating his opinion.  He is the true idea of a man.  Not childish groups of people who aren’t getting their way and decided to call names and throw a tantrum.  So if you haven’t yet, ask yourself what you’re willing to say to do in order to keep your faith with God.  Are you willing to give anything up?  The only thing God has ever asked for is your heart.  It is us that attach other things to our hearts.  Is your heart free for only Him?  Or are you squeezing Him out with the other things.

Just What Is Love?

  1. Love: A profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
  2. A feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.
  3. Sexual passion or desire.
  4. A person toward whom love is felt; beloved person; sweetheart.
  5. Used in direct address as a term of endearment, affection, or the like: Would you like to see a movie, love?

Although there were several more these are the first 5 definitions on Dictionary.com.  But love truly can‘t be define.  By the world standards love is a feeling that has so many different levels to it that no one can place one and only one sentence to define what love means to them.  There have been several songs written about love from just about every different aspect there is.  There have been movies made to show a vast variety of love.  There have been numerous books discussing the very highs and lows on the matter.  1 Corinthians 13:4 Love suffereth long, and is kind; love envieth no; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.  1John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us.  God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God and God in him.  The Bible, which is God inspired, shows me that Jesus Himself is the love that is spoken about in the verses above.  If you do a study of how Jesus lived while He was here on the earth, you can see that He fits both verses.  God glorifies Himself within Himself and shows that through Jesus as His son.  John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The word that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.  Jesus is love!  Is it no wonder that we have such a hard time describing love?  For all that, Jesus is, there aren’t enough words in our tiny knowledge to speak a well definition of Him.  Jesus has been with us from the beginning.  Well truly, even before that.  For He was with us before the world even began.  Genesis 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.  Here we read that the Word and Jesus are also one and the same.  The Word of God is Jesus.

We all know love when we feel it.  As a child grows, they learn how to be loved and how to give love.  Love is such an important part of each of our lives that everyone fights for it. We all want to be loved.   And once one has love they fight to keep it.  We get angry and sad when someone has taken something or someone that we love.  Our perspective of love changes as people change.  As children, I doubt that you loved your parents the same way that you do now.  As a Christian, when you were new, your love for Jesus may have seemed overwhelming.  But the longer you follow Him, the deeper that love is to grow.  It isn’t that Jesus has changed.  It’s that He, Jesus, Love, has changed you.  The longer you follow Him the easier it should become to love others.  John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. There was a man in the flesh that loved everyone he met.  He loved us all so much that He was willing to die for us.  To show us just how much he truly did love us.  Jesus is God and God is in Him. For God so loved the world, that He gave up His love, Jesus, so that we would not parish.  John 4:1 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.  The words Spirit and Truth are also hard to describe.  You don’t just look around and see a spirit, and the truth is whatever you believe it is, even if you maybe wrong.  And yet, we know and have a good understanding as to what they are.  I have heard that to hear God and His word you must use your spiritual ears. When Jesus spoke, the Pharisees were not using their spiritual ears at all because they enjoyed how their system of worship was benefitting themselves.  There is a key to love.  And it is quite simple.  I bet you just dying to know.  Right?….Right? Ok, so here it goes.  The key to understanding love and what it is about, is to understand Jesus.  To understand Jesus you must understand the will of God.  To understand the will of God you must love.

John 15: 12 This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you.  The coming of the Lord is on our doorstep.  When Love rings the doorbell, are you going to answer with love or with your own system?

Are You An Excuse Maker

In my last post, I had spoken about not letting my own prejudice stop me in attending church.  And I have found that there are a lot of people who do just that.  You can take this however you would like:  Go To Church!!!  I am not talking about just going because it’s a holiday or because there is some event going on at a church.  I mean you should jump at the chance to be able to attend each and every service they have.  I am a believer in church.  No matter if you attend a mega church or a local.  Just Go!  Studies have found that people who attend church not only have the opportunity to get closer to God they also tend to raise their children with high values, it keeps them grounded, it keeps them connected to the community, they tend to live longer, they are happier in their lives, grow into an extended family.  People (Yes, I am also guilty) can make up any excuse they would like to not attend.  But what you are really saying is that you don’t care enough about your relationship with God to go.  You are placing those excuses in a higher priority than God.  Church is not about what they can do for you but what you can do to show off His glory and to bring others to Him.  Your feelings and your preferences should never be placed in front of Him.  This life is not about you.  This life is about The Lord Almighty and what He has done for you.

Are You At War Within Yourself?

There’s a war inside of me. Between who I want to be. There’s a war inside of me. Between who I want to be and who I am.  These are lyrics to a song by Todd Agnew.  If you ever get a chance to listen to it with your spirit, I’m sure that you will find yourself saying that it’s true.  We battle within ourselves everyday. So no, you’re not crazy or have multiple personalities. Trying to decide on whether or not we are doing something for God’s glory or if we are glorifying ourselves.

We can understand better when we read in Romans 7:14-25  Paul explains that we all have sin dwelling within us.  But that, how we wield it is the important thing.  Read verse 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.  If we can learn to practice doing good, we will in turn be becoming more Christ like.  We all seem to have areas in our lives that have a hard time grabbing a hold of.  They can eat at you.  The whole time you do it you’re thinking about how you shouldn’t be doing it or the feeling of guilt comes over you after you’re done.

My own confession of this will come later: two weeks from now.

As I have said before, we will have to give an account for our actions.  Matthew 12:36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. When reading that do not think that it is only words.  For remember actions speak louder than words.  Our actions, are due to what we have traveling through that mind of ours.  1 Peter 1:13  Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

What you see; what you hear gets put into your mind.  What is in your mind, gets put into your heart. Now I don’t believe in hypnosis.  Say what you will, but I think that those people (if they truly are hypnotised) are weak spirited people. But have you ever heard of those tapes that one puts on at night and listens to as they fall asleep.  Some of them talk about how beautiful you are, others try to curb your eating.  But if you think about it, when you listen to anything long enough you will believe the words that are being spoken.

So what war do you have battling you?  Are you one who thinks you can handle it on your own?  Are you seeking help for it?  If so, is the help you’re seeking from God or man?  Because remember he has a war of his own.

What Fear Do You Have?

And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation. Luke 1:50

What do you fear? Fear has different meanings.  How you use it, is of the utmost importance. Fear can be a strong driving force in a person’s life.  It can have a hold of a person so much that it controls their every move or thought.  Fear can causes anxiety and obsession.  Fear can also be given in awe.  It can show that you have great reverence toward God.

Have you ever taken the time to watch and understand what people fear?  They stop themselves from truly living for fear of what they don’t know or understand.  It can hinder the enjoyment of everyone around them.  There are all kinds of phobias out there. And there are all kinds of people who have them.  I know a lot of people who are afraid of spiders.  If they even hear about spiders, they start to sweat and shrink inside themselves.  They will do everything that they possibly can to not have to be near, or hear about them.  The fear of the spider has just gained control of where they go and what conversations they have. There are people who are afraid of heights.  I have read stories that have described some people so afraid that they can’t even go on the second floor of any building.  The anxiety of what might happen to them holds them hostage to it.  Controlling where they go and who they can visit.  Their fear cuts them out of aspects of life.

These fears can lead into worry, guilt, and destruction.  Such intimidation should not be tolerated in one’s life.  Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.  Understanding and trusting in the Lord to take care of everything that comes against you can at times, seem impossible.  When I learned that my son has lesions on his brain, I went into complete craziness.  For I allowed the fear of what it might mean for him to consume me.  But knowing that I have a savior who has already fought and won over all evil, brought me peace.  When I laid down all trouble and worry that I was having over him, God pulled me in closer to Him and gave me comfort.  Because He was so gracious in doing this, I fear Him even more.  God shows us His awesome mercy and grace every day.  That alone should be enough to fear him.  But He does so much more.  He has allowed Jesus to conquer all that will come against me.  That includes the spirit of fear.  2 Timothy 1:7 For god has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

To hold your faith in the fear of God will allow you to grow deeper in His love.  Psalm 147:11 The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy.  To hold your faith in fear………… is allowing yourself to die.
